Prácticamente a diario recibo un email cuyo asunto es “Canción del día”, iniciativa singular donde las haya de un alma caritativa y altruista que cada día dedica unos minutos a compartir con sus contactos de correo una canción diferente.

        El viernes pasado me llegó Move de CSS, con un vídeo súper divertido rodado en Barcelona, que como todo lo que caracteriza a este grupo brasileño es puro color y buen rollo y que además me hizo especial gracia porque justo cuando Lovefoxxx apareció de pronto en mi pantalla cantando eso de “…you better get your move on” yo empezaba mi mudanza. Literal quiero decir, nada de cambio de blog ni cosas del estilo, hablo de mudanzas de toda la vida. LA gran mudanza, permitidme que añada.

        Así que si no estoy apareciendo por aquí con toda la regularidad que debería prometo volver a hacerlo tan pronto como abandone Ikea, donde llevo prácticamente una semana recluida. Cantando “…you better get your move on” de pasillo en pasillo, eso sí!

        Almost daily I get an email named “Song of the Day”, peculiar initiative promoted by a charitable and altruistic soul that each day dedicates a few minutes to share with his email contacts a different song.

       Last Friday it was Move by CSS, with a super funny video shooted in Barcelona that, like everything that surrounds this Brazilian band, is full of colour and positive vibes and that especially amazed me because just as Lovefoxxx appeared on my screen singing “…you better get your move on” I was starting my own move. Literally, I mean, no change of blog or stuff like that, I am talking about a real move. THE big move, let me add.

       So if I’m not showing up in here as regularly as I should I promise to do it as soon as I get to leave Ikea, where I’ve been almost living for the last week. Singing “…you better get your move on” from aisle to aisle, though!

       Hay algo que me inquieta y me enternece, a partes iguales, en la obra de Erwin Olaf. Sus personajes, cargados de un dramatismo extrañamente silencioso y estático parecen esconder mil mundos en su interior. Mil mundos llenos de tal desamparo, mutismo y contención que consiguen calar con el mismo sigilo en la memoria del espectador.

       De todas sus series Grief, Hope y Rain son indudablemente mis preferidas; de un marcado carácter pictórico todas ellas suponen una estética y preciosista radiografía psicológica de cotidianas escenas sociales.

       There’s something intriguing and touching at the same time in Erwin Olaf’s work. His characters, full of a weirdly silent and static dramatism seem to hide a thousand worlds in their inner selves. A thousand worlds full of such neglect, mutism and self-restraint that get to catch on with equal stealth in the beholder.

       From all his series Grief, Hope and Rain are, without doubt, my favourite ones showing a strong pictorial nature of all them reflect an aesthetic and precious psychological X-ray of everyday social scenes.

        Desde el pasado 23 de Octubre y hasta el día 21 de Febrero del 2010, se ofrece la primera retrospectiva (200 obras!) en España de la obra de este artista holandés. Darts of Pleasure 1984-2009 se puede ver en el Domus Artium 2002 de Salamanca.

        Seguro que has oído hablar de ellos, seguro que su música ya te suena de algo, y es que estos tres hermanos londinenses llevan ya un tiempo considerable ostentando el título de última sensación en lo que a descubrimientos musicales se refiere gracias a su pop-rock súper fresco con toques R&B, Swing, Country y Blues.

       Kitty, Daisy & Lewis estarán paseando sus alusiones a Johnny Cash, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles o Elvis Presley el próximo jueves 26 de Noviembre en la sala Joy Eslava de Madrid* y no se me ocurre una manera mejor de empezar el fin de semana que disfrutando de una genial noche de baile.

        Sure you’ve already heard about them, sure their music rings a bell because these three siblings from London have been for some time already holding the ultimate-sensation-title, according to musical discoveries, thanks to their super fresh pop-rock with some touches of R&B, Swing, Country and Blues.

        Kitty, Daisy & Lewis will take their allusions to Johnny Cash, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles or Elvis Presley next Thursday 26th of  November to Joy Eslava in Madrid* and I can’t think of a better way of starting the weekend than going there and enjoy a great dancing night.

Can’t get enough of Lina Scheynius.

Cuando aún estudiaba, fui de Erasmus a Inglaterra y en la escuela donde estaba nos plantearon un proyecto muy interesante. Había que elegir un diseñador, analizar su trayectoria, su estilo y crear una propuesta de colección totalmente coherente con lo que él había hecho hasta la fecha. Yo elegí Ungaro.

Ya ha sido criticado todo lo criticable y extenderme aquí en este tema ahora sería ya prácticamente anacrónico (sí, así de rápido va esto); además, creo que ya he dejado clara mi postura al respecto alguna que otra vez. El hecho es que hoy leí que Neiman Marcus y Net-a-Porter se han negado a vender su próxima colección y justo después leí las declaraciones del propio Emanuel Ungaro sobre la maltrecha colaboración:  “La colaboración con Lindsay Lohan ha sido un completo desastre… Estoy furioso pero no hay nada que pueda hacer al respecto… …Esto les pasa a muchos diseñadores. Éramos los creadores y los patrones, responsables de la creación y el destino de nuestras casas. Pero cuando dejamos nuestras casas, dejamos nuestras almas.”

Tras digerir la tremenda frustración que destilan estas palabras me he dado cuenta de que se me había olvidado qué me había llevado a elegir a Ungaro para aquel proyecto. Suerte que encontré esta fantástica imagen por ahí y lo recordé todo de pronto.

When I was still studying I spent some time as an exchange student in England and in the school where I was we were told to do a very interesting project. We had to choose a designer, analize his history, his style and create a ficticious collection that should be totally consistent with what he had done till then. I chose Ungaro.

Everthing that could have been criticized has already been criticized and spending time on this now would be almost anachronistic already (yes, these things go that fast); anyway, I think I’ve already make my stance clear about this sometime. The thing is today I read Neiman Marcus and Net-a-Porter have refused to sell his next collection and right after that I read Emanuel Ungaro’s own comments about the battered collaboration: “Lindsay Lohan’s collaboration was a disaster … I am furious but I can’t do anything about it… …That happens to a lot of designers. We were the creators and patrons, responsible for the creation and destiny of our houses. But when we gave up our houses, we gave up our souls.”

After digesting the terrible frustration this words exude I have just realized that I had totally forgotten why I had chosen Ungaro for that project. I’m so lucky I found this amazing picture somewhere, and then, suddenly remembered everything again.

        Los chicos de LeLook vuelven a montar una de sus fiestas* este jueves en el Vintage Bar  (C/Fusina, 7 Barcelona) del Born y, además, para ésta se han aliado con fashionfreax. En la fiesta se presentará la marca isaraelí Anna K y, siguiendo con la tradición, habrá un desfile-concurso en el que serán premiados los más stylish de la noche, así que si alguno de vosotros se atreve espero veros desfilando por ahí. Os advierto que formo parte del jurado implacable. Y sí, soy implacable. Lo prometo.

        LeLook are having one of their parties* next Thursday at Vintage Bar (C/Fusina, 7 Barcelona) in Born, and for this one they have joined efforts with fashionfreax. There will be the presentation of Israelian brand Anna K and, to follow the tradition there will also be a show-contest in which that night’s most stylish boy and girl will be awarded so, if any of you dares, I hope to see you modelling there. I should warn you that I will be part if the implacable jury. And, yes, I am really implacable. Promise.

Exposición en la que se incluyen trabajos de gente como Marcus Oakley, Colin Henderson, Dan Has Potential, Daniel David Freeman, Michael Willis, Lindsey Gooden, James Pearson Howes, Jiro Bevis, Petro and Russell Maurice…

        Y para el domingo o el lunes dejaría la fantástica venta de esta temporada de Robinson Pfeffer. Oh, afortunados londonders!

       If only I were there too, I wouldn’t miss tomorrow the private view of  OUR ENDS at Chapter One: “…a celebration of creative talents living and working in London.” An exhibition featuring artworks by different artists, such as Marcus Oakley, Colin Henderson, Dan Has Potential, Daniel David Freeman, Michael Willis, Lindsey Gooden, James Pearson Howes, Jiro Bevis, Petro and Russell Maurice…

        And then, on Sunday or Monday, I would go to the amazing sale of the season at Robinson Pfeffer. Oh, you, lucky londoners!

        El diseñador argentino explora una vez más los límites más allá del guardarropa del gentleman clásico, dándole un nuevo giro con las formas y con los tejidos, pero también con la imagen de ésos bohemios, con apariencia de adolescentes eternos, que retrata en su campaña cuyo principal objetivo es vestirse como todo un gentleman de nuestro tiempo.

        The Argentinian designer explores once again the limits beyond the classical gentlemen’s wardrobe, giving it a new twist with the shapes and materials but also with the image of those eternal bohemian teens portrayed in his campaign, whose main aim is to dress as a gentleman does these days.

        Me encontré esto, ahora mismo y de casualidad, rebuscando en mi carpeta de cosassúpermolonas y Blue Monday fue lo que me vino directamente a la cabeza. Sí, ya sé que aún es domingo por la noche pero es que detesto tanto los lunes que, en un desaforado e incomprensible impulso autodestructivo, tiendo a anticiparlos.

        Just found this totally by chance diving into my supercoolstuff folder and Blue Monday is what came instantly to my mind. Yes, I know it still is Sunday night but I hate Mondays so much that, due to a wild and incomprehensible self-destructive behaviour, I tend to bring them forward.
