Mi madre es oficialmente, una moderna. Nunca creí poder afirmarlo tan rotundamente pero debí haberlo visto venir porque ya apuntaba maneras al apuntarse a clases de informática. Más aún cuando se hizo con su propio portátil. Ahora me cuenta que necesita un Facebook para comunicarse con su prima, que está lejos, lejos… porque parece que con la videoconferencia no tiene suficiente. Lo último es despertarme con un email en el que me recrimina porqué motivo supraterrenal, que escapa a cualquier entendimiento humano, hoy aún no he actualizado el blog.

Me voy unos días a Berlín* así que, para compensar la falta de actualización este fin de semana os dejo con Chaos lo último que sale de The Optimist, segundo álbum de New Young Pony Club, que son buenos, buenísimos. Y que os van a encantar, como poco. Y a mi madre, más.

My mother is, officially, a true modern woman. I never imagined I could assure this so categorically but I should have seen it coming when she joined some computer classes. Or maybe when she got her own laptop. Now she says she needs a Facebook account to talk with her cousin who’s living far, far away… because, apparently, videoconferences are not enough. The lastest is findind one of her emails, early in the morning, asking to which supraearthly scaping-from-any-human-reasoning cause is due to the non-updating of my blog.

I’m leaving some days to Berlin* so, to compensate for the lack of updating this weekend here I leave you Chaos, the latest single of The Optimist, New Young Pony Club’s second album. You are gonna really, really love it, at least. And so my mum.

Los míticos diseños de Maison Michel se presentan esta temporada acompañados de ilustraciones de Cedric Rivrain: más apetecibles aún, si cabe. Para cuando salga el sol de una vez por aquí y la primavera sea, de verdad, primavera, yo ya empiezo a visualizarme con el primero.

Hace cosa de un año intenté obviar, como quien no quiere la cosa, la campaña de American Apparel para promocionar sus scrunchies; me hizo gracia que coincidiéramos en el revival capilar 90′s (cosa por otro lado bastante obvia, si es que la década está en pleno comeback) pero no estaba yo plenamente decidida a apoyar semejante regreso. Sigo sin estarlo, pero ahora ya da igual; porque ahora resulta que los scrunchies también vienen de la mano de Marc Jacobs en su desfile para esta Primavera/Verano y que, además, los de Nylon se apuntan a anunciarlos como una de las tendencias de la temporada. Ahí lo dejo.

Like a year ago I tried to ignore, as if it was easy, the campaign American Apparel did to present their scrunchies; it was nice to see we both coincided in a 90′s hair revival (a quite obvious thing, on the other hand, as the decade is experimenting its biggest comeback) but I was not totally sure about promoting such a return. I am still not but it does not really matter any more because now scrunchies have already got to Marc Jacobs S/S 10 show, plus, they are also in Nylon latest issue as one of the biggest trends of this season. There you have it.

Hace algunos años, por estas fechas, estuve de vacaciones en la Costa Azul. La parada en Saint-Tropez fue obligada, pero tan breve y fugaz que sigue pendiente volver en un futuro próximo y cenar en una de sus callejuelas, de ese bohemio híperdeluxe tan contradictorio (todo sea dicho), a la luz de las velas. Hace unos días descubrí el libro In the Spirit of St. Tropez de Henry-Jean Servat que incluye imágenes inéditas de la pequeña villa francesa en pleno esplendor 50′s tras el rodaje de Y Dios creó a la Mujer, film al que le debe el hormiguero de yates y whiskys on the rocks que desde entonces saturan su diminuto puerto.

Me recordó la portada, con esta Brigitte Bardot tan fresca y estival, a las imágenes del fotógrafo austro-húngaro Martin Munkácsi, con sus especiales ángulos y sus cuidadas composiciones a pie de playa que, a su vez, me recordaron a esa campaña de Prada del verano 2001 Cédric Buchet. ¿Acaso todos los caminos llevan a Prada?

Some years ago, I was spending my Easter holidays in Côte d’Azur. Stopping by in Saint-Tropez was totally compulsory, but it was so brief and short that since then it is in my to do list to come back soon and have dinner by candlelight in one of its lovely, bohemianly (also contradictory) hyper deluxe, narrow streets. Some days ago I just discovered In the Spirit of St. Tropez de Henry-Jean Servat including some unseen images from this little french village’s golden 50′s right after it was filmed in there And God Created Woman, the only one to blame for that yatch and whiskys-on-the-rocks swarming that, since then is overflooding its tiny harbor.

The cover with that Brigitte Bardot so fresh and summery reminded me of the work of Austro-Hungarian photographer Martin Munkácsi, with his particular angles and his accurate compositions by the sea that, at the same time, made me think of that Prada S/S 01 campaign by Cédric Buchet. Do all roads lead to Prada, then?

Últimamente, los lunes son más lunes que nunca. Me imagino que es algo que, simplemente, pasa de vez en cuando; y deja de pasar sin saber muy bien porqué. Estrenar la temporada de running en el bosque al ritmo de Róisín Murphy puede ser parte de una terapia infalible.

Los contratiempos técnicos del nuevo dominio están quitándome un poco el sueño. Los que hayáis intentado entrar en algún momento entre el viernes por la tarde y hoy domingo habréis comprobado que la página estaba totalmente inaccesible y es que ésta viene siendo la tónica de esta última semana… Me gustaría marearos lo menos posible y evitaros a vosotros especialmente todos estos inoportunos contratiempos. If you have tried to visit the blog some time between Friday evening and Sunday evening you will have realized that the website was totally inaccessible and this has been a constant in the last week… I would like to confuse you the least with this and prevent you from suffering all this inopportune setbacks. Leeds in Barcelona es una original iniciativa creada con la idea de promover y dar a conocer la vida cultural de esta ciudad inglesa más allá de sus fronteras. Ayer organizaron un encuentro de bloggers en el Hotel Barceló Raval y la verdad es que fue muy agradable encontrarme con gente a la que hacía bastante tiempo que no veía; como a Tatel de TrendyCrew y a Cris de TheFashionCircus con las que nos vemos de 080 en 080, o a Igor y Carole de LeLook, a los que no veía desde su última fiesta y también a Max de FashionFreax, que siempre es súper atento. Ver a Ziz y a A. (un placer!) de StopStealingMyLook por allí fue toda una sorpresa y a P. e Iñaki que, aunque nos vemos más seguido, nunca está de más. Leeds in Barcelona is an original initiative created for promoting, and making the outter world know about, the cultural life of this British city. They held a bloggers meeting yesterday at Hotel Barceló Raval and it was really nice to meet in there some people I hadn’t seen for a long time; like Tatel from TrendyCrew or Cris from TheFashionCircus with whom I keep on meeting only from one 080 to another, or Igor and Carole from LeLook, we hadn’t met since their last party, and also Max from FashionFreax, always so attentive. Finding Ziz and A. (my pleasure!) from StopStealingMyLook there was a really nice surprise, like meeting P. and Iñaki, though we keep on seeing regularly is always nice to repeat. Treinta fotografías del artista suizo Jean-Luc Camattre ilustran su exposición Poste Mon Amour en The Private Space (hasta este viernes 26 de Marzo). Un recorrido por las oficinas de correo de su país, abandonadas, desiertas y solitarias; decadentes e inevitablemente venidas a menos ante la aparición de sistemas de correspondencia alternativos. Aún vacías, inertes e impersonales, parecen conservar una pátina de vida en los muebles empolvados y las casillas vacías, muy a lo party is over, que los hacen extrañamente interesantes.

Thirty pictures of Swiss artist Jean-Luc Camattre can be found in his exhibition Poste Mon Amour in The Private Space (till next Friday 26th March). A journey through his country post offices, abandoned, deserted and lonely; decadent and unavoidably losing rank due to the appearance of new and alternative correspondence media. Even empty, inert and impersonal, they still seem to preserve a patina of life in their dusty furniture and their empty boxes, in a very appealing party’s over way.
